Web Design Process Step 10

Connecting the dynamic website to third party websites, internal business processes or external sources of data.

The previous step dealt with the concept of handling 'local' data or data supplied by the Customer, however, websites are, by definition, connected and there are times when a project needs the website to connect to external sources of data.

Externl data comes in many guises

  • CRM systems
  • Management information systems
  • Credit card merchant accounts
  • Business accounting systems
  • 3rd party APIs
  • Corporate knowledge and ticketing systems
  • XML and RSS feeds
  • Social media

External Connections

Connecting to third party systems will often require the use of an SSL certificate to securely encrypt the data being passed between the Customer, the website and the third party IT systems. At this level the website becomes a key strategic component of your business and its business processes.
